50th Anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Police

Germany-based lasershow specialist tarm Showlaser GmbH produced a laser-robot-pyro spectacle to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Abu Dhabi Police. The event – attended by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces - was staged in the Zayed Sports City Stadium. The show was a collaboration between Dubai based HQ creative, the Police and His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who played a very hands-on role in the event. Lasting an action-packed 90 minutes, the show concluded with a high energy laser and firework finale.

Tarm Showlaser GmbH supplied four high powered green lasers at the back, under the screen and four high powered full-colour units at the front of the arena and all lasers where air-cooled and based on solid-state-technology. Two of the full colour lasers fed the two 4m high and 1000 Kg heavy industrial robots at the front of the performance area and the other two lasers were between them and the edge of the pitch. The two Laser-Robots were supplied as a novel idea by tarmīs managing director Ralf Lottig. Their starring role saw them mimic rifle-spinning exercises with one of the Desert guardsmen. Later on, they were turned around and fired their lasers onto the screens for graphic effects as well as atmosperic effects covering the whole stadium with laserbeams while they were moving timecode-syncronized to the music.

A total of 40 remote-controlled smoke and wind machines were installed all around the stadium in order to ensure a stadium filling haze for the laser finale. All eight lasers were controlled via a fibre optic network and operated by Kai Kasprzyk from three DSP computers synched into the show via timecode from video and for the finale, from the pyro-timecode of german-based pyro specialists LunatX, well known for their imaginative and different shows.

In addition to shooting pyro from 29 positions across the field and another 17 in the roof, they worked closely with tarm Showlaser GmbH on the finale, a minute of which was pure pyro, and the other two minutes and 10 seconds were a combined multimedia show amalgamating lasers, lighting and sound.

After the show, Major Dr. Fawaz Al Karaeen stated: “Everyone was really delighted with the results of the show which far exceeded expectations. It was great working with the such a fantastic team, whose experience, vision and enthusiasm made the occasion really memorable.”
