Flashlight in Action with Showguns

Flashlight, the first company in Europe to purchase High End Systems’ Showgun luminaires, which allow spectacular lighting effects to be achieved, used 33 of the ultra-modern fittings during the recent Eurovision Junior Contest at the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam.

Besides the Eurovision Junior Song Contest, Flashlight has also used its Showguns for other shows in the Ahoy, including concerts by René Froger, Frans Bauer and Gerard Joling. Lighting designer Henk-Jan van Beek has been working with Showguns for the very first time. “Ahoy is a major venue and so I put a large number of Showguns around the arena,” he says. “The beam is tight and narrow and, thanks to the enormous light yield, they can be seen from a distance. The audience is bathed in a sea of light with the effect of an enormous rainbow.”

As the first lighting rental firm in Europe with the fixture, Flashlight now has a large number of Showguns in stock. During the Eurovision Junior Song Contest – with the theme Make a Splash – no less than 33 were used around a set that also involved enormous raindrops and waterfalls.

For the concerts by Froger, Bauer and Joling, while the set was completely different the Showgun rig remained the same. Good news for lighting designer Henk-Jan van Beek, who designed all four shows in the Ahoy – and for all the shows he uses, among many other luminaires, the Flashlight Showguns.
