JHA Entertainment Installs and Tours Void Acoustics

Void Acoustics, designer and manufacturer of advanced professional audio systems for the installed and live-sound markets, reports that its Air Series products are gaining ground in the UK club market, marked by their latest installation at Harveys, a popular night venue in Bedford. Void's Airten mid-high loudspeaker systems, along with its Impulse 5t low-frequency design, have been specified and installed by JHA Entertainment as part of an extensive fit-out at the venue, involving audio, lighting and multi-screen video systems. The Void loudspeakers were selected for their combination of high-end audio performance and dynamic visual appeal, and are contributing to the club's reputation as a fashionable, quality venue.

James Allison, of JHA Entertainment, commented: "Harveys is a smart, 400-capacity late-night bar, and the single pair of Void's Airten systems, together with their Impulse sub, provides plenty of powerful coverage throughout the venue. This was a very pleasant surprise for the owners, who were initially expecting to see rather more loudspeakers! The Void Acoustics systems are ideal for this type of install, needing very few enclosures to produce dance-floor levels at the highest quality. We wall-hung the Airtens using flexible mounts, and custom-built a rubber-on-wood mounting for the Impulse, to minimise leakage. Harveys is one of the first venues in Bedford to stay open past 4.00 a.m., greatly increasing the area's choice of exclusive late-opening venues, and is proving deservedly popular."

JHA Entertainment's project at Harveys is the latest in a number of UK installations, including Buddha Blue in Milton Keynes. Representing the first installation of its type in the UK, this system features Void's Air Motion with Paraflex 360 and 640 loudspeaker systems. It also parallels JHA's experience with its touring rig, which comprises exclusively Void Acoustics loudspeakers, amplifiers and loudspeaker management electronics. James expands: "At Buddha Blue, we installed two pairs of Void's triple-horn Air Motion systems, supported at the low end by two Paraflex 640 and two Paraflex 360 enclosures. We also installed 8 x Mycro 8 systems as fills, with all the loudspeakers powered by just three of Void Acoustics' Kryo Dual amplifiers - a K7, a K5.4 and a K5. Again, until they heard the results, no-one really believed it was possible to fill the spacious 1000-capacity venue with audio of such clarity, using so few loudspeakers. We have immense faith and confidence in Void products - the first switch-on of the sound system at Buddha Blue was on the club's opening night, and it worked straight out of the box! Our client is naturally very happy with the results.

“Our Void-based touring rig is also receiving frequent accolades - from artists and public alike - and due to the reactions we've been receiving, as well as the rig's sheer versatility, we have now sold all our older, non-Void rig components. Our rig now comprises exclusively Void Acoustics loudspeakers, amplifiers and loudspeaker electronics, and we regularly handle events of up to 1200 people, using just four Impulse 3t trapezoidal mid-highs and four Impulse 8t mk2 low-frequency enclosures. These are powered by Kryo 7 and Kryo 5.4 amplifiers, with loudspeaker management by Void's Digidrive V2 system. We've had extremely positive responses, such as 'best sound system I've used' from Radio 1's Trevor Nelson, and Montell Jordan simply saying 'fantastic' after only hearing one word at his sound check, and then walking off happy - kind of says it all!"

The Airten design installed at Harveys is the latest product in Void's acclaimed Air Series, and utilises a 10" LF and a 1.5" neodymium HF transducer, with each housed in its dedicated part of the system's aircraft engine-like twin-nacelle design, manufactured from a fibreglass Kevlar composite that can be finished in any custom colour. Use of the advanced materials gives Void the design freedom to produce enclosures with dynamic aesthetics, and with the necessary strength and rigidity to eliminate internal resonances. Void's Airten loudspeaker is capable of delivering continuous SPLs in excess of 120dB, and incorporates a self-driven intake protection circuit to control and limit system excursion.

The low frequency duties for the Harveys install are managed by a single Void Acoustics Impulse 5t unit. A dual 15" enclosure, incorporating in-house designed transducers, the Impulse 5t employs a unique manifold technique to achieve the low frequency extension while maintaining response accuracy.
