Flux Events at the Secret Policeman's Ball

Flux Events headed by John Farquhar-Smith production managed and co-ordinated all the technical elements and support for the 2008 Secret Policeman's Ball for Amnesty International. The high profile show was staged at London's Royal Albert Hall and broadcast the following day on Channel Four.
The event united the very best of international stand up comedy talent, including Eddie Izzard, Frank Skinner, Ed Byrne, Shappi Korsandi, Sarah Millican, Tim Minchin and many others, in a provocative, totally hilarious side-splitting evening of laughter and political banter. The show also featured a special guest appearance by leading UK indie band, Razorlight.
Flux Events manage technical production for all Amnesty UK's live events, and Farquhar Smith worked on the 2006 Secret Policeman's Ball, which revived the concept of comedy fundraising for human rights issues.
"As always putting the right team together was the key to everything running seamlessly on the day," comments Farquhar-Smith, who has just returned from production directing the London 2012 Handover sections of the Closing ceremonies of the Olympics and Paralympics.
He also feels the RAH is the perfect venue for the event, because if its character and the "fantastic team" involved in its operation. This year, the get-in commenced on the Friday, which made a huge different to the slick running of the production schedule, allowing each department ample time to get their elements in place.
Farquhar-Smith collaborated closely with Tiger Aspect, who oversaw all the televisual aspects of the show. It was directed by Julia Knowles, who called the show as well as the cameras, which also helped the general synchronicity flow. The executive producers were Mike Agnew for Tiger Aspect and Seamus Mitchell-Murphy and Suzie Aplin for Amnesty.
