Irish Summer Events with K.M.E. PANO

The Ballina Street & Arts Festival and the Westport Music Festival are twp of the biggest summer events in County Mayo, Ireland - and both have had their sound reinforced with K.M.E.'s line array system PANO.
The family-orientated Ballina event in July included folk pageants, dancing and theatre performances and stalls with traditional goods all along the streets - and attracted about 40.000 people. Several stacks of a passive PANO configuration consisting of line source units QL 906 and direct-radiating subs QLB 118 had been installed along the river Moy for around 300m and approximately 60m away from the audience to reproduce the musical framework for the pageant and the spectacular fireworks.
"There is something for everyone" was the guarantee given by the organisers of this year's Westport Music Festival that took place in August. Ireland's most popular solo artists and bands such as Sharon Shannon, Mundy, Dessie O`Halloran, Robert Mizzell, Ray Lynam, Philomena Begly, Whitewater, Ragus and The Walls delighted about 25.000 people with music from folk to rock. The impressive stage was built in the river Carrowbeg and provided a unique setting for spectators and artists alike. Here again, QL 906s were used together with cardioid subs QCB 318.
Both locations had very difficult acoustical surroundings, but both the set-up of the system along the river bank in Ballina and the installation on stage in the river in Westport were solved without problem with PANO. The dispersion and performance of the system could be calculated exactly in advance by the simulation software PANO Focus, and as a result the sound was consistently clear and powerful across all audience areas.
Liam Feeney, manager of TSM (The Sound Man) supported by the Irish K.M.E. distributor Joe O'Neill Ltd, was responsible for the sound for both events. TSM are specialists in theatre and concert sound and already have long experience in working with K.M.E. equipment. Liam Feeney said: "Last year we used PANO for the Ballina Mardi Gras Night and were really satisfied with it. Even in difficult acoustical conditions the line array did not fail. Of course, that's why we used it again this year for Ballina and Westport. Both spectators and the organisers have reported a very positive response regarding the sound."
