Located on the site of an original 16th century monastery in Wiener Neustadt, Backstage Musicbar went through many changes until in 1994 it opened as a bar. By 2006 new proprietor Christian Pinkernell had established the venue as a live music bar near the Austrian capital, with capacity audiences of 140 rocking out to Austrian and international bands alike.

Sensing the need to upgrade the sound system earlier this year, he contacted Roman Wieser at eXact VmbH, the Austrian QSC Audio distributor. "I had know Roman for a long time - but was not familiar with QSC," he said. "At that time I had my eyes set on another brand until he persuaded me otherwise."

Christian Pinkernell certainly has no regrets about switching to the California company's premium products. As a result, the 80 sq. metre room has been equipped with a pair of powered HPR122i's flown above the stage, with an HPR151i providing the bass extension. These were installed by Rautschka AVL and ELA Trading.

Because of its versatility and flexibility, the HPR 122i bi-amplified, 2-way multipurpose loudspeaker is ideally suited for the purpose. A 500W power module, based on QSC's proven RMX technology, drives a 12" neodymium low-frequency woofer with a 3" voice coil and a 1.4" diaphragm neodymium compression driver.

As for the HPR151i, its 15" driver and 700 watt power module are capable of producing 133 dB peak SPL with frequency response down to 43 Hz - delivering a sound quality that rivals many 18" subwoofers.

"Both musicians and sound engineers are delighted with the quality of the new speakers," says Christian. "They fit perfectly within the room.

"And since we are playing all types of music - from jazz to rock concerts, we love the versatility of the system."
