Amber Sound for Kent County Cricket Club

Amber Sound, the Hertfordshire based pro audio distributor, now in its fourth year of trading, has just completed a sound design, specification and equipment supply for Kent County Cricket Club. Amber was approached by ECL Telecoms, KCCC's technical facilities provider, to help find a solution for this awkward outdoor space. Amber's Graham Paddon undertook the project and oversaw it to completion.
KCCC has enjoyed success in the county championships and cup competitions for many years and is certainly one of the most prominent forces in the domestic game. Hosting up to 15,000 spectators per game, it was evident that their loyal supporters and visiting guests deserved something more than speakers on the ground with limited coverage or on poles which spoilt sightlines.
Graham chose products from Duran Audio's AXYS Intellivox range, as the replacement loudspeakers; column speakers that offer vertical directivity that uniquely aim the sound at the listener. By installing three Intellivox speakers from the DC range, rigged on the main grandstand and score-boards, all seats around the ground are now able to enjoy a clear, intelligent audio quality, which compliments the high standard of cricket played at KCCC.
Nick Screen, from Duran Audio UK, explains how such a small yet powerful loudspeaker system can be so directional: "By processing the signal going to each of the loudspeakers in the array, Intellivox technology can control the vertical opening angle and "steer" the beam, allowing you to aim the sound where you want it, at the listener. In an outdoor situation like this, you can cover a very large area with a single loudspeaker and contain the sound to your listener area, therefore reducing noise pollution."
Amber also supplied new QSC PLX-2502 amplification, to power the existing loudspeakers built into the grandstands, along with an Allen & Heath PA12 mixing console, a Marantz CD player, and a Sennheiser radio mic system.
