Long Reach Long Riders Ride Again
The Long Reach Long Riders has announced the schedule and route of their sixth annual charity motorcycle ride. The 2009 trip begins in Richmond, Virginia on July 31 and ends on August 6 in Dahlonega, Georgia. In between the tour will travel through places like Cades Cove and Bear Gap, and some of the prettiest country and ride some of the best bike roads east of the Mississippi.
The Long Reach Long Riders began their charity ride in 2004 as a one-time event. The idea was to ride from Boone NC to Long Beach, CA to attend the USITT conference and raise money for charity along the way. The trip was so
much fun, and the fundraising went so well, that it was decided to turn the run into an annual event. Since 2004 the LRLR have ridden to Rapid City, SD twice, meandered through New England and, on last year's trip, spent a week
rumbling through the great canyons of the Southwest. Over the past five years the rides have covered close to 20,000 miles and have raised over $170,000.00.
Greg Williams and Alice Neff, founding members of the LRLR, are the 2009 Ride Marshals. Greg explains: "From a cruise up Grandfather Mountain to a ride through Deal's Gap and The Dragon's Tail, we've put together a ride that has scenery to wow even the most jaded traveler and roads that will satisfy the varying skill levels of the riders. Special thanks to Moe and Christine Conn for helping us map the route. We'd like as many people as possible to join the ride, of course, because the more riders we have, the more money we raise. I'm hoping that we set new records for not only the number of riders but also the amount of money raised."
The charities that benefit from the annual ride are Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The ESTA Foundation's Behind the Scenes program.
