Cité de la Musique in Paris gets Butterflies

A Butterfly Outline array was used at the Cité de la Musique, in the heart of Paris, on the occasion of two concerts that were particularly demanding from a technical point of view: "Histoire de Melody Nelson" by Serge Gainsbourg and "L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches" by Jean-Claude Vannier.
At the prestigious Parisian shows there were exceptional guests, including Brian Molko (leader of Placebo), Mathieu Amalric (actor), Daniel Darc (ex Taxi Girl), Alain Chamfort, Brigitte Fontaine and Martina Topley Bird, as well as the "Lamoureux" symphony orchestra (listed as one of the most important in the world). There was a high profile rhythm section, with drummer Pierre-Alain Dahan, bass player Herbie Flowers and guitarists Claude Engel and Thomas Coeuriot and, lastly, the "Paris Young Choir". Technically speaking, it was a real challenge for the sound engineers, with over 70 channels to be mixed and a multitude of microphones.
For the sound reinforcement of such an important event, Outline's French distributor, AUDIO² installed a system made up of 24 Butterfly CDH 483 Hi-Packs and eight CDL 1815 Low-Packs (respectively 12 and four per side); all powered by Outline T7 digital power amplifiers. DVS 10 multi-purpose enclosures were used for the front rows of the audience and four Subtech 218 for the very low frequencies.
Bruno Morain, head sound engineer at Cité de la Musique, commented: "I found the Butterfly system's performance in the theatre exceptional; I was particularly struck by the total absence of "aggressiveness" and the aptitude to naturalness of its acoustic reproduction - practically speaking, I didn't equalize above 2kHz. The string section was pleasantly free of "acidity", a factor which on the contrary I've noticed in other situations. I had such a large reserve of dynamics at my disposal in relation to the hall that we decided to reduce the gain by means of the handy attenuators built in to the digital power amps. The evenly balanced sound when listening in various points of the halls and the coherence of the timbre were also very good."
