Rockin' Seoul's Clubs with HK Audio ACTOR DX
Shin Chon university district is one of the hippest nightspots in Seoul, Korea's capital and home to ten million people. A student stronghold packed with clubs, bars, restaurants, and small shops, the quarter hosts the weekend's hottest events. And the Studio ‘80s Dance Club figures prominently in the party.
The club specialises in music of the ‘70s through to the ‘90s, playing almost everything except current chart tracks. Kim Gino, one of Korea's top DJs and a music business veteran with more than 30 years experience, owns the Studio ‘80s Dance Club launched five years ago. The mind boggles at the sight of his personal record library. One of Korea's biggest, this impressive collection of music comprises more than 300,000 disks. And all these grooves rock the house from the party cellar below to the bar in the ground floor.
The club's old sound system was deemed too small and inflexible, so the Studio ‘80s Dance Club was recently treated to a new rig. And the system of choice was an HK Audio ACTOR DX. Kim Gino comments: "We selected HK Audio ACTOR after trying out several systems. The records of the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s sound really powerful and much more dynamic with ACTOR. That's probably because tracks weren't compressed as much back then as they are today and that's closer to the real live sound. Incidentally, our HK Audio ACTOR DX system runs with the DDO controller set to the live band setting. We still spin many records today, and CDs too of course, but not MP3s. They don't fit in with the spirit of the time that our club captures. We also have live acts now and then here in the club, so we need a flexible system that we can quickly set up in different ways. ACTOR DX is compact, efficient, and super-flexible. We are very satisfied with our choice."
It appears that decision set a precedent because more clubs are opting for HK Audio ACTOR DX PAs. For example, the Sim Soo Pong Café, owned by its namesake Korean singer and actress Sim Soo Pong, is one of the clubs that recently installed an ACTOR DX rig.
