Midas and Klark Teknik at Prolight + Sound 2008

Two new products from Klark Teknik are being unveiled on stand E70, Hall 4.1 at Prolight + Sound 2008, Frankfurt.
The show marks the European launch of the new Klark Teknik Square ONE Splitter (pictured) - the third addition to the popular Square ONE range. Packaged in a road-worthy, 2U steel chassis, the Square ONE Splitter combines a simple eight-channel solution with a high-performance, Midas XL8-inspired pre-amp design, making it ideal for applications ranging from concert sound to recording.
Assuring optimum audio performance, the Square ONE Splitter features Midas XL8-inspired mic preamps, providing a dynamic range of >140dB and high CMRR to accommodate input levels up to +22dBu. This guarantees superb audio performance, regardless of which console is in the audio chain.
Another key feature is the Splitter’s third set of transformer-isolated, gain-independent outputs located on the front panel for easy connection of recording devices and outside broadcast facilities. There is also a 1-16 media split function, which allows input 8 to be routed to all 16 rear-panel XLRs simultaneously via a single recessed switch on the rear panel, making it ideal for press feeds and other multiple-signal distribution applications.
Making its international debut is the production version of the Klark Teknik DN9696, the industry’s first high resolution hard disk recorder aimed at the live performance environment.
The DN9696 offers 96 tracks of 96kHz audio at 24bit and nine hours internal recording time. It uniquely features mirrored drive capability, allowing simultaneous internal and external HD recording for real time backup and redundancy, removing the need for time-consuming copying at the end of a concert. It is packaged as a simple-to-use, stand-alone single box solution. Other features include both front panel and GUI operation, dual redundant AES50 connections, full integration with Midas Digital Systems, standalone recording using Midas XL8 analogue and digital I/O and industry standard Broadcast Wave files (BWAV) which can easily be imported into any DAW system.
At the heart of the DN9696 is a customised version of the SADiE MTR software and DSP core, with features added specifically for the live environment, including a front panel Solo/PFL headphone output for monitoring and simple transport controls for play/stop/record functions. Occupying just 5U of rack space, the DN9696 has very simple cable requirements and doesn’t require a dedicated recording technician.
The full range of KT signal processing equipment and Midas consoles, including the XL8 Live Performance System, can also be seen on the stand.
