SHOW-WAY 2008 WORKSHOP: LIGHT AND FASHION

To entice and stimulate, fashion uses the aesthetic and emotional symbolic contrivances typical of shows - along the lines of semiotics and poetry - to attract us and arouse that pathos which relates us with others.
Lighting is used in fashion as a means to communicate seduction and charm in the form of instruments intended to spark off the desire to possess. The masterly balance of light and shade, colours and contrasts is designed to bring out the spectators' most heart-felt personal values.
Lighting plays on the mechanisms of the emotional, psychological and sociological domain, which blends with acquired knowledge, conventions and imagination, through the art of display, by excitingly covering and uncovering our bodies.
Speaker: Salvatore Mancinelli
Salvatore Mancinelli has worked for over 25 years at the Teatro Alla Scala (Milan opera house) as lighting department director. The deep knowledge he has gained in electrical engineering and electronics, technological equipment and theatrical lighting, together with his highly active research and experience in the applications of light and colour in the theatre, are the basis of his much appreciated work as a teacher / speaker in training / specialization courses on lighting engineering and theatrical lighting effects for set designers, choreographers, dance teachers, ballet masters and architects at prestigious teaching institutes such as the Accademia di Brera and the Teatro Alla Scala itself. It also forms the basis of his 20 years of work in the fashion industry as lighting designer for Giorgio Armani. His deep knowledge of logistics strategies and technological changes in the theatrical world also explain his frequent consultation on the subject of theatre reconstruction, and his partnership with the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto as theatrical production technical manager since 2000.
