Vrienden van Amstel 2008 Live with MagicQ
Between 24th January and 3rd February at Ahoy, Rotterdam over 200,000 people flocked to see the tenth birthday party of Vrienden van Amstel 2008 Live music spectacular featuring all the top Dutch live acts. Each artist performs two tracks and on the third track, the next artist came on stage, sings part of the song before, and takes over to perform their two songs.
With so many different acts and styles, it certainly demonstrated the versatility of the MagicQ consoles from ChamSys. Every day, the opening sequence of the show included an amazing two-minute long drum solo with audio, lighting, video and pyrotechnic all synchronised together using SMPTE timecode. The two MagicQ MQ100 Pro consoles each took a SMPTE feed to ensure perfect synchronisation with a total of 77 different lighting Cues fired automatically during the opening sequence. The total show had approximately 2000 Cues and 2000 Cue Stacks.
Ignace d’Haese from Arf & Yes designed the setup while Olivier Demoustier controlled and programmed the lighting together with Alain Corthout. Lighting, sound and video was provided by EML-Productiuns of Belgium. The first MagicQ MQ100 Pro Console controlled over 200 moving lights from Vari-Lite with the second MagicQ MQ100 Pro Console running ArKaos media servers, the LED fixtures and 300 dimmer channels. Following this show, the MQ100 Pro consoles were also used for two following shows, ‘De Dijk’ and ‘Golden Earring’. These shows were
programmed in the same MagicQ show file which it held in its memory with ease.
