ABTT Theatre Show Presents Solutions for Schools

The Association of British Theatre Technician’s ABTT Theatre Show is gearing up to celebrate its 30th birthday in London’s Royal Horticultural Halls, June 11th-12th 2008.

Over the years The ABTT Theatre Show has witnessed the unveiling the most groundbreaking technology, which has set a precedent in revolutionising the world of theatre production, not only in London’s West End and regional theatres, but also in drama schools, independent and public schools, colleges and universities nationwide.

Many of The ABTT Theatre Show’s longest standing exhibitors, including AC Lighting, ETC and Zero 88 have recently taken part in the first Schools Theatre Group Conference (STSG - http://www.stsg.org.uk/). Staged at Rugby School the conference raised awareness of the specific issues relating to school theatres, which are run with the same intentions, products, rules and problems as any other theatre venue, the only key difference being the smaller footprint.

Embracing a developing range of technologies for use in any auditorium, the ABTT Theatre Show has built an enviable position as a unique platform for manufacturers, designers and suppliers to showcase the latest advancements in technical theatre, which includes the development of many smaller scale product solutions that impact on theatres in the education world.

Paul Durose – theatre manager and technician at The Leys School, Cambridge and Chairman of the STSG commented: “The ABTT Theatre Show has played a major role in promoting new technologies that have impacted on theatre at all levels. It is so important that architects and consultants in education are made aware of new technology as it can make a massive difference in schools. Products such as Zero 88 new Leap Frog and Jester lighting consoles have been designed with the small-scale venue in mind, which we saw for the first time at The ABTT Theatre Show.”

These technical advancements, spearheaded recently by digitisation have augmented the theatre experience for the audience, impacted on the economics from a show management perspective and radically streamlined operations for all technical personnel involved with theatre.

Attracting an expanding visitor base year on year the Theatre Show highlights the demand for expert industry advice drawing in architects, consultants and building services managers from affiliated independent and public sectors, whilst building on its core attendance from all those involved with equipping, refurbishing or up-grading their drama studio, theatre, auditoria or multi-purpose performance spaces.

The focus of The ABTT Theatre Show in its 30th year is to promote the on-going dialogue between end-users and manufacturers, maintaining its leading position as innovative, informative and educational.
