Frog 2’s Light up the Universe

Kosmos offers five different halls plus a beautiful summer terrace and a lounge. The entrance hall has a capacity of approximately 600 people, in addition to two conference areas and a theatre auditorium.
The oval main hall extends over 1000 square metres. More than 10% of the space is reserved for the main stage with a 18x9m cinema/video screen and two 4x3m screens on the stage sides. Halls 2 to 4 are mainly used for seminars and theatre performances. The main hall is designed for big events and club dancing. Two 10kW JBL Sound-Power-Systems are responsible for the sound. In terms of DJ and and Video jockey equipment the Kosmos uses two Pioneer CDJ-1000 CD systems and Technics MKII 1210 turntables, as well as a tractor system from Native Instruments with everything controlled with a Dynacord M1 sound mixer. For the visual background effects Edirol V4 data from a Maxedia is used. The VJ can use two CDJX1 players and a Pioneer DJM 600.
The lighting rig in the main hall consists of 20 Color Spot 575Ats and six Color Wash 575 XTs from Robe, eight Ultralite ULQ10FRN Quadro 1000AL/FRs, 24 LED PAR 64's, four Martin Atomic Strobes plus Colour Scrollers and 4-light Blinders. A Zero 88 Frog 2 controls the lighting rig.
Sven Rose technical manager at the Kosmos started his career 1987 as a DJ and Ingo Kayser in 1991 as a lighting operator. Both give highly positive statements about the Frog 2. "Apart from the price, the user friendliness and the fast access came first in terms of the decisions for the Frog 2. We tried many consoles until ‘the Frog landed’ at the Kosmos," explained Ingo Kayser.
The setup in the smaller hall looks like a "small brother" of the big main hall. Here there are two Technics turntables, a Pioneer CD Player and a Dynacord sound mixer. A Rane Serum system replaces the Tractor one in the big main hall. Video projection is also in the small area. In terms of lighting there are 14 Clay Paky Miniscans, four High End Technobeams, 12 PAR 64s, eight LED Pars and a power strobe, all controlled by a second Frog 2.
“The first Frog 2 was bought approximately a year ago,” Sven Rose explained. "Our first Frog 2 went straight up into the big main hall and it was so easy to operate from day one. Six months later when the second smaller hall was nearly finished we knew exactly which console we would like to have for the new place. There is no better desk available for the combination of club, event and theatre applications. The Frog 2 is simple to use, versatile and offers extreme possibilities that other consoles don't have in that price range. We are very happy with the feature package the Frog 2 offers us. It is a very flexible, multi-functional lighting console - perfect for the kind of jobs we do (seminars, motor shows, congresses fashion shows and rock n roll events.)”
