ISCEx Goes From Strength to Strength
A record number of companies exhibited at the ISCEx2008 Exhibition and Seminars this year. Refurbishment work at the normal Watford venue gave the opportunity to move to the Park Inn Hotel at Northampton, which proved to be a hit with exhibitors and visitors alike with its larger and more convenient facilities.
Some 34 companies and 120 people attended the event to exhibit the latest developments in cables, microphones, loudspeakers, public address, sound-field systems, voice alarm, induction loop systems, conference systems, intercoms and voice over IP.
Bryan Robinson, President of ISCE said: “Yet again the ISCE has demonstrated its value to its members and to the wider industry by staging another successful event. Add to this the expanding training programme and education initiatives and the ISCE is going from strength to strength.”
Michael Whiteside, of Fuzion plc, gave an illuminating seminar on how and why identical cables from different manufacturers can function differently and how this can affect the performance of sound systems.
Kevin Sherwood, of CIE, spoke about the large growing market that is opening up to install sound reinforcement systems in classrooms. This was of particular interest to many ISCE members as it represents a new opportunity for their skills.
Johannes Rietschel of Swiss company Barix explained how it is now possible to use existing standard IP networks to set up one-way and two way speech systems that ranging in scale from a simple intercom to a worldwide audio broadcasting network.
The seminars concluded with Thomas Steinbrecher senior acoustic designer of Bose Professional Systems, who showed how a sound system achieving good speech intelligibility is influenced by reverberation and background noise.
Malcolm Cunnings of Cunnings Recording Associates said: ”ISCEx2008 was a really great day with lectures that were informative and pitched at the correct level, together with an exhibition with many new products that we were able to check out, discuss their suitability for forthcoming projects and, of course, meet so many colleagues from our industry.”
Andy Scott, who started the event in Birmingham in 2001, said: “ISCEx brings members together to exchange knowledge and to network in a relaxed environment. I am delighted to see how ISCEx has grown from a small regional show to one of the “must visit” events in the sound industry’s calendar. My thanks to all who helped organise the event.”
Following yet another successful ISCEx, companies have already started booking up for ISCEx2009 on 3 March 2009, and the organisers welcome proposals for technical seminars from potential exhibitors and visitors alike.
