Lab.gruppen PLM Series Monitors The Offspring

The new PLM Series Powered Loudspeaker Management system has been selected to handle stage monitoring power requirements during the US leg of The Offspring's current tour pending the release of their latest album in June.
Monitor engineer Shon Hartman, is impressed with the power and sonic fidelity of the PLM Series supplied by Schubert Systems Group. "They deliver great definition in a high SPL application," affirms the seasoned engineer. "We have five of these new PLM 10000Qs in an eight-mix rack: seven channels for my stage mixes using L-Acoustics 115XT HiQ coax wedges, one channel for the drum Thumper, and a spare amp." The band kicked off its tour during mid-May in Southern California before moving to Europe and returning to the US in July and August. PLM is a joint development of Dolby Lake and Lab.gruppen.
The new PLM 10000Q integrates networked digital signal distribution, drive processing, power amplification and load verification plus performance monitoring into a single unit with a unified software controller. The PLM's amplifier platform is based upon the highly successful and tour-tested FP+ Series. Previously, Hartman has been using another brand of power amps that featured add-on DSP cards. "I just didn't like the sound they produced and they never got loud enough," Hartman says. "These new PLMs eliminate the need for separate processing. They were supplied by Schubert with the built-in Dolby Lake processing that contains pre-programmed EQ for our [L-Acoustics] HiQs and the Thumper.
"I'm used to having to manipulate sound equipment to make it sound good; these new PLMs give me the powerful, high-quality output that I need with very little adjustment. They dial-up flat and sound outstanding! When we get back for the rest of the US dates, I'm going to make sure we have these PLMs in the monitor rig."
