Void's Stasys Loudspeakers Move Air and Concrete
Void Acoustics reports fast-selling success for its Stasys Series point-source loudspeaker system, fuelled by the introduction of the Stasys X wide-band horn-loaded sub at PLASA 2007. Principally conceived as a touring system, the Stasys Series has also been selected for a number of prestigious club installations, in addition to the take up by rental companies.
Among the first projects are The Vaults in Dublin, Ireland, with installation by Decibel Audio, and Club 2k in Penzance, UK, installed by Ninetwentyfive, plus touring systems supplied to GHB Hire in Essex and JHA Entertainment in Bedford.
Terry Lewis, director of Void Acoustics, commented: "We were hoping for great things following the launch of the Stasys X wide-band sub, and Stasys Series' rapid rise in popularity exceeded our expectations - it even caught us a bit by surprise, although we have now re-scheduled our production in order to meet demand. It is great for an audio manufacturer to see the sonic and technological benefits of a product translate into sales so quickly, and we are obviously delighted with the response. Whether as a touring or installed system, it reflects our design ethos of delivering a better result from fewer boxes, and at an extremely competitive cost-quality price point. Seems like our customers have noticed this too!"
A six-brand shootout decided Decibel Audio's project in Void's favour at The Vaults, a prestigious multi-purpose venue and club in Dublin. The venue's two-room club is built underneath a railway station dating from 1886, and the club required a new system in each of its two rooms. Derek Dunphy of Dublin-based Decibel Audio explained: "The club wanted a complete update of its sound systems, principally to satisfy the demands of top-calibre DJs. Void's Stasys system was a convincing winner against the five other top-name brands in the shootout, almost literally blowing away the competition. The final design is using four stacks of Stasys 3.2 mid highs and Stasys X subs in each room, floor-stacked in twos on either side of the DJ position, generating some 13kW in each space. These are simply awesome products, and the project at The Vaults follows our other recent Void installs, such as the Platinum nightclub in Dun Laoghaire, which also uses the Stasys 3 and Stasys X combination. And there are more in the pipeline!"
Void Acoustic's Stasys X wide-band horn-loaded sub, also features in Ninetwentyfive's installation at Club 2k in Penzance, Cornwall. The sub uses five resonant chambers to extend the ground-shaking response down to 35Hz, while maximising both efficiency and long-throw projection. Ninetwentyfive's Swenson Kearey commented: "Club 2k previously had a 10-enclosure system in its main room that was not delivering the desired results. The club has a capacity for just 800 people, and is built inside what amounts to a concrete cube, located within a 200-year old grain warehouse. The club's structure needs considerable bottom end to get things moving, and the new Stasys X sub proved absolutely ideal. The upshot is that we've replaced the older 10-box system, from another manufacturer, with just five Void enclosures - a single Stasys X sub, one pair of Impulse 3t mid-highs, plus a pair of Void Mycro 10 units as delays. That's a very simple system, but it delivers far more than the club has ever experienced before - a stunning result from such a few boxes. Personally, I think these Void designs are probably far better than even Void claim themselves! In Club 2k, they are generating uniform chest compression across the dance floor, delivering excellent results for the club's mix of hard-core dance, reggae, drum & bass, and live rock. After the success of this system, we are planning on acquiring a Void-based touring rig, for the live-events rental side of our business."
Void Acoustics has also supplied Stasys touring systems to JHA Entertainment in Bedford, and Essex-based events management specialist, GHB Hire. Adam Green, of GHB, said: "Our company handles live events and productions all over the world, so product quality and survivability are critical requirements. We have had an older Void system for some five years now, and they have more than proved their reliability. We wanted to add the benefit of the Stasys Series to our inventory - quite simply, they produce more power, and a better sound, from fewer cabinets. This obviously makes touring a system far easier, especially with the convenience of flying or ground-stacking the enclosures. Two mid-highs, for example, fit on a Euro-pallet, making transport much easier, illustrating just how well thought-out they are from the practical point of view as well. We now have four stacks of the Stasys 3.2 mid-highs, plus four stacks of the Stays X sub - and this is sufficient for very large events. You can only have one brand that is first in the quality stakes, and in my opinion, that is definitely Void!"
