SGM and Lightfactor Debut New SGM Giotto Digital 1500

SGM of Italy, together with their UK distributor Lightfactor, debuted the new Giotto Digital 1500 moving light at the central London HQ of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Billed as 'the most important Stage & Screen Debut of 2008' the event drew interest from all corners of the lighting industry.

The Giotto 1500 series is a whole new range of 'super bright' moving heads for stage and touring. Designed as a modular range which includes spot, wash and profile variants, the presentation centred on a unit fitted with the High Tech 'Digital' module.

Using a DLP chip and inbuilt media server, the Digital module holds 500 'digital gobos' - 250 held as bmp picture format plus 250 held as avi animated clips.

SGM sales director Franco Natali described the Giotto Digital 1500 as: "Certainly not a video projector on a moving yoke, but a traditional powerful moving light with computer generated animated graphics."
This difference is most evident in the light output gathered from the Philips MSR1200 fast fit lamp.
The colour render index from this type of lamp is higher than that of a video projector - producing a brighter, punchier beam.

The Digital module also provides all the other features normally provided by stepper motors and other mechanics, including, gobo rotation, shutter blades, iris, gobo morphing as well as adding digital zoom and instant gobo change.
