Showsec at Cardiff University Summer Ball

After one year of service at Cardiff Student Union, Showsec has dramatically improved customer satisfaction. A survey at the union this year showed that 78% of students are happy with Showsec's services compared to the 75% of students last year who were unhappy with the previous security operation. Showsec has achieved this turn around by listening to the needs of the students and the Students' Union whilst suggesting improvements themselves.
One student in the survey commented: "I am very glad to see new door people [on duty] this year and they are helpful, polite and professional. Thanks for listening."
The most recent example of this relationship at work was at the Cardiff University Summer Ball in Cardiff's Castle Park this June. Both the Union's organising team and Showsec demonstrated their professionalism by transferring their events operation to this greenfield site. A Showsec team with the skill set to manage a small festival was deployed, including pit teams, stewards, door supervisors and turnstile teams. Staff were briefed on the venue, its facilities and the fire escape points.
Ben Eagle, the entertainments manager at Cardiff University Students' Union, said: "The event organisation was fantastic this year. Showsec were able to deal quickly with problems because of the good staffing and communications structure they had in place. We also received positive comments from the artists with regards to their safety and the use of close protection from SIA staff."
Paul Trippier, Showsec's area manager said: "Showsec rounded off a very successful first year at Cardiff University Student Union by supplying a full range of crowd management services to the ball. The biggest challenge of the night was the egress of 7,000 students onto a major Cardiff thoroughfare. Good planning and the friendly nature of staff ensured that both egress and traffic kept flowing."
