Tannoy On The Edge Of Love

A rare glimpse of a vintage Tannoy ribbon microphone can be had in the brand new romantic drama On The Edge Of Love. The new movie, directed by award-winning filmmaker John Maybury (responsible for the music video of Sinead O'Conner's ‘Nothing Compares 2 U' among other things) stars Keira Knightley as late 1930's cabaret singer Vera Phillips in the real-life story of legendary Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas.
In one scene, already published as promo for the movie, screen siren Knightley is captured singing into a bronze-finished Tannoy ribbon mic. Produced from 1939 until well after the war and possibly even into the 1950's, these microphones were available for both stage and desktop use. Its presence in the new movie underlines the long-standing heritage of the Tannoy brand, having produced audio products long before most of their competitors still around to this day.
The Edge Of Love is out in cinemas from June 20th on Capitol Films and also stars Sienna Miller, Matthew Rhys and Cillian Murphy.
