AQUiVO Smashes an Ace at Wimbledon
To celebrate London's flagship championship tennis tournament, official banking partner HSBC transformed Wimbledon tube station into a virtual tennis court, with Nintendo Wii activities played on an AQUiVO screen.
Marking the annual return of the world's most prestigious grand slam tennis event, HSBC decided to transform London's Wimbledon tube station into a fully interactive mini tennis court for the duration of the tournament. Enlisting the expertise of Red Door Events the station's outdoor concourse was immersed in tennis fever.
The area was creatively tennis themed with false grass and adorned with a range of tennis accessories to welcome both local and international visitors. The centre of the station's entrance featured an HSBC backdrop, which incorporated a revolutionary 55" AQUiVO and a Nintendo Wii which were both built into the set, on which commuters were encouraged to challenge each others tennis skills.
Insight AV sourced and specified the outdoor LCD screens for Red Door Events from specialist UK distributor, PSCo. The IP56 rated screens facilitated the all weather requirement as the location of the screen was completely exposed to the elements.
Steve Reynolds, sales director of Insight AV comments: "The AQUiVO screen fitted the brief perfectly, as the set was completely open we required a screen that could withstand our typical British weather. The feature achieved great footfall at the station throughout the tournament and provided an interactive and engaging experience."
Stuart Holmes, managing director of PSCo said: "The AQUiVO range is ideal for this application. They are very popular for brand experience roadshows and launches as they are a very impressive piece of AV technology and always catch people's eye wherever they are integrated. As the screens are extremely robust and the anti reflective surface displays a clear image even in high ambient light, they are suitable to a whole host of different environments that other screen technologies can not perform."
