Vaughan Sound Installations specified, supplied and installed a complete integrated digital signage system throughout Swansea's new LC2 leisure centre, together with sound systems for the Main Hall, Gym and Wave Pool areas, plus AV/presentation systems for 3 function rooms.

Previously known as ‘Swansea Leisure Centre', the facility has recently re-opened after a £32 million refit as a state-of-the-art water park and health & fitness centre.

Llanelli-based VSI supplied 32 Mitsubishi LCD commercial displays of various sizes, predominantly 42 inches, which are installed around the building. In the reception area, an elegant 10 metre semi-circular Trilite truss is flown in the ceiling, and fitted with 5 screens showing general information, opening times, etc.

For the ‘Peak' multi-level Gym, VSI supplied a full sound system consisting of two arrays of flown TOA F2000 speakers, carefully positioned to give full coverage across the space. A Cloud zone mixer deals with processing etc., and front-end sources include CD and DAB tuners.

VSI also supplied 16 Sanyo LCD TV screens for the Gym and ‘Spinning Room', which receive satellite feeds and are linked into the main sound system.

Another Logic ‘Ethos' line array sound system was specified for the Main Hall - a multi-purpose space used for aerobics and special sporting events. This features one cluster of mid-high speakers and flown subs - to cover a 38 by 38 metre area.

For three separate function/presentation rooms, VSI has installed self-contained sound systems based on a combination of TOA and QSC amplifiers and DSPs, complete with electric retractable screens and Sanyo XU78 3000 ANSI Lumen projectors. Sound and AV for each room is independently controlled from an intuitive, easy-to-use wall-mounted AMX control unit. Connections for laptops and DVDs are also provided.

The Wave Pool - which includes indoor surfing facilities and a network of pools, slides and rides - has also been fitted out with flown single cluster and subs to relay audio from the balcony down to the actual wave pool area for special events, poolside parties, etc., DJs can be hooked into the system and a selection of local mics are also available. This is again controlled via a TOA M9000 digital mixer.

The project was managed for VSI by Ross Whitehead and account handled by Keith Fish. Their team of engineers worked closely with Neil Plow of Hoare Lea, the Mechanical and Electrical Consultants for the overall project, to deliver the required systems for end-client - Bay Leisure, the not-for-profit organisation responsible for running the LC2.
