Electro Kabuki Helps Unveil Berkoff Performing Arts Centre

Magnet Schultz award-winning Electro Kabuki has been used to dramatic effect to unveil Alton College's new Berkoff Performing Arts Centre. Opened by the distinguished actor, theatre director and writer, Steven Berkoff, who has lent his name to the Performing Arts Centre, the Electro Kabuki ensured that the drape fell to the ground on cue to reveal the new, modern designed, two storey building.
Supplied by market leader in the hire and manufacture of soft goods to the entertainment industry, Acre Jean, six Electro Kabuki mechanisms, were attached to a giant fuscia coloured drape and linked by cable connectors to the firing mechanism. When Steven Berkoff pressed the button, the Electro Kabuki units released the drape, which fell to the floor to unveil the new building.
"We wanted to create a more dramatic effect than just cutting a ribbon," said Nicky Redmond, marketing manager at Alton College. "I suggested a Kabuki drop as I felt this would provide a reveal, which it was felt was more suitable for a theatrical venue."
The Berkoff Performing Arts Centre has pride of place at the front of the College. Built around the existing, but newly refurbished theatre, the modern Berkoff Performing Arts Centre comprises a bright, open foyer, double height dance studio, changing rooms, rehearsal and teaching rooms all complete with new, state of the art technical equipment as well as a costume, scenery and props store.
"We were delighted with the result which provided the opening ceremony with just the effect we wanted", said Nicky Redmond. "We were pleased with the support received from Acre Jean and using the Electro Kabuki ensured the reveal went without hitch," she concluded.
