Korean University Prepares for Artcenter's Grand Opening with Cadac J-Type
Cadac Electronics Plc reports that its Korean distributor, Dreamsound, has supplied a 52-input Cadac J-Type Live Production Console to the Kei Myung Artcenter, which formally opens this month. Located on the Kei Myung University's Seongseo campus in Daegu, the Kei Myung Artcenter has a 1900-capacity auditorium, acting principally as a music and performing arts student facility, as well as hosting a variety of medium and largescale visiting productions. Involving a total investment of some US $80m, the project commenced in January 2005, and has been operational since February this year. Following the gala opening, the first major production will be the Korean musical The Last Empress, featuring lyrics by In Ja Yang, music by Hui Gap Kim, and sound design by the celebrated local sound director, Ki Young Kim. The musical Mamma Mia! is also scheduled to run towards the end of the year.
The Artcenter's head of sound, Han Sung Yup, was looking for a highly versatile sound system, capable of handling the many different show genres at the venue. He selected a combination of the Cadac J-Type and loudspeakers from L-Acoustics, on the basis of providing a system that would be well recognised by visiting sound designers and engineers, as well as delivering a top quality sound. His previous experience of Cadac from the broadcast sector led him to the choice of the J-Type, commenting "the J-Type quite simply offers the best sound for musicals and live performance, and we are delighted with our choice."
The Kei Myung University has been established as an educational centre for more than 50 years, and currently has 27,000 students. The ambitious development of the Seongseo campus, including the building of the Artcenter, represents the latest phase in the University's expansion. Dreamsound was awarded the contract to supply the complete sound system for the Artcenter, which includes L-Acoustics KUDO cabinets as the main speaker system, with SB118 subs and 8XT front fills.
