Meyer Sound at AES: TEC Award Nomination and New Products Extend a Legacy of Innovation
A new Meyer Sound product, slated for introduction at the 125th AES Convention in San Francisco (October 2-4), will mark yet another milestone in the company's nearly three decades of leadership in advancing the science of sound. Kept under wraps until the show, the new release will surely be a center of attention on the Meyer Sound booth (814), along with the North American debut of the UPQ-2P narrow coverage loudspeaker, the SB-3F sound field synthesis loudspeaker and the UPJunior VariO loudspeaker that has been nominated for a TEC Award in the category of Sound Reinforcement Loudspeaker Technology.
Meyer Sound will showcase its benchmark audio products both recent and enduring, from the 1990 TEC Award winner-the revered HD-1 studio monitor-to the revolutionary SB-3F sound field synthesis loudspeaker with the ability to project mid- and high-frequency energy over distances up to 1km. The high-powered SB-3F employs Meyer Sound's leading-edge sound field synthesis technology with multiple small point sources to create a focused, coherent long-range sound field. Used for Céline Dion's recent show in Quebec, and installed at the newly renovated Los Angeles Coliseum, the SB-3F can be used for both touring and fixed installations.
The UPJunior loudspeaker will be the 26th Meyer Sound product to be nominated for a TEC Award, and the five TEC Awards bestowed on Meyer Sound products will be on view in a display case at the booth. The UPJunior combines the advantages of a self-powered system with the placement and arraying flexibility afforded by a VariO rotatable horn. The astonishing MM-4XP self-powered miniature loudspeaker will also be shown. At the Westin St. Francis on the evening of October 3rd, Meyer Sound will be present as the Platinum Sponsor of the TEC Awards, providing a self-powered sound system featuring the popular MICA line array loudspeaker. MICA was nominated for a TEC Award in 2006.
To satisfy the curious minds interested in Constellation® electroacoustic architecture, Steve Ellison, the company's LCS Series applications director, will give a seminar on the groundbreaking technology on Saturday, October 4 at 10:30am. The Constellation presentation is free of charge to show attendees. On Tuesday, October 2 at 2:30pm, R&D engineer, Peter Soper, will participate in a panel titled "The SOTA of Designing Loudspeakers for Live Sound." On Sunday, October 5 at 2:30p, company CEO John Meyer will join two other panelists in the session titled ‘Innovations in Live Sound-A Historical Perspective', chaired by Ted Leamy of Pro Media/ UltraSound.
Also of interest to attendees is the AES Technical Tour of the Center for New Music and Audio Technology (CNMAT) at UC Berkeley. Meyer Sound actively participates in leading-edge research at institutions like CNMAT to support ongoing research and to stay a step ahead of the world's most adventurous artists and researchers in the realms of music, recording, and the physics of audio.
