Midas XL8s Take the Heat at Summercase Spanish Festival

Spanish production company Siempre Creativos provided its two Midas XL8 Live Performance Systems for Summercase, a two-day twin site festival, held simultaneously in Barcelona and Madrid.
The XL8s handled FOH and monitor duties for the Converse stage in Madrid, where artists included the Mystery Jets, Biffy Clyro, Sons & Daughters, Neon Neon and The Juan Maclean.
"This was the first time all the visiting monitor and FOH engineers had used an XL8 and they all had very good things to say about it after mixing their bands," says David Castelló from Siempre Creativos. "The engineers were happy with the POP groups and the advantages they provide, as well as the EQ and the extremely good sound of the pre amps and the flexibility of the automation. Nobody used outboard equipment with the systems."
The XL8 proved itself as an ideal festival console on a number of levels. Demonstrating the ease of saving previous show settings, One Night Only turned up straight from T in the Park with their XL8 showfile on a USB key, which was duly loaded into the console. And in what proved the most dramatic moment of the weekend, all power to the mix tower went off during The Juan Maclean's set. The PA continued to work however, as the audio was being processed by the XL8's rack, which was onstage and therefore unaffected by the loss of power.
As usual with festival setups, the XL8s were far from the only Midas consoles in attendance. Two Heritage 4000s were on the Movistar stage while an H3000 was used at FOH on the Walkman stage, and several artists were touring with their own, including Kings of Leon who brought their XL4 and The Verve who had an H3000.
