Void Expands Design Team

Void Acoustics has announced the appointment of renowned audio designer Andy Hunt to the company's design team. Andy brings his extensive skills in pro-audio design and manufacture, gained from a long-standing career in the industry that has included consultancy work for many prestigious brands. Void Acoustics' new Infinite X range of lightweight, switch-mode power amplifiers is already benefiting from Andy's expert input. The first models are due to reach volume production very shortly, at the company's newly-established dedicated amplifier manufacturing facility in Poole, UK.
Alex Skan, director of Void Acoustics Ltd, commented: "Andy is without doubt a powerful addition to our design team, led by Rog Mogale. A perfect complement to Rog's team, Andy's unique set of skills and immense experience are helping to put Void in a very strong market position, emphasising our standing as a systems company with the scope for ground-breaking electronics as well as loudspeakers. Our new Infinite X range is designed specifically for simple and efficient production, as much as it is for exemplary audio performance at high power levels. It demonstrates that if you approach the design process with sufficient creativity, UK-made products can successfully combine high quality with market competitiveness. Void is now one of the very few British amplifier manufacturers to have integrated every aspect in-house - from PCB production, using our own SMT pick-and-place machines, through metalwork, to final assembly and test. We have invested heavily in creating our own dedicated manufacturing line, ensuring that we can maintain excellent control over quality, throughput and price. This in turn enables us to stay as competitive as possible, while easily synchronising amplifier production to demand. Andy's contribution is a significant part of the whole, and it's great to have him on board."
With his audio career spanning more than 20 years, Andy Hunt began as a production manager, progressing to the design and manufacture of affordable high-end Hi-Fi amplifiers in the mid 1980s, developing innovative products that evolved into the Aura brand from B&W. This experience gave him an important grounding in sonic quality that could be applied to the live sound industry, alongside his study of amplifier-loudspeaker interaction. Andy went on to found Matrix Amplifiers, which he ran successfully for many years. His design philosophy is focused on creating forward-looking products that optimise power output and audio performance, while ensuring the concepts are production engineered for swift and economical manufacture.
The first three models in Void Acoustics' Infinite X power amplifier range are two-channel designs, featuring high-efficiency switch-mode power supplies that deliver up to 8kVA, and newly-developed MOSFET output stages to maximise audio fidelity and reliability. The range initially comprises the Infinite X4 (2 x 600W into 4 Ohms), the X5 (2 x 800W into 4 Ohms) and the X6 (2 x 1200W into 4 Ohms). All models will deliver significant increased power output into a 2 Ohm load. Andy Hunt's involvement in the products' design will also be seen shortly in the Infinite X7 and X8 two-channel amplifiers, followed by two four-channel designs - the Infinite 5X4 and 6X4.
