W-DMX on Qi - a Palace Fantasy in Germany

Qi - Eine Palast Phantasie, spoken "Kie", is the latest show in the Berlin Friedrichstadt palace using W-DMX by Wireless Solution Sweden AB. On the largest stage on earth, the ensemble offers dance, ballet, energy-fueled music and artistry in haute couture costumes in front of an elaborate stage set.
The 100 artists are supported by an experienced lighting crew supervised by Olaf Eichler, and the latest generation of lighting equipment from Clay Paky, Vari*Lite, and MA Lighting - all controlled by W-DMX.
Five Wireless Solution W-DMX S-1 Transmitters and 10 W-DMX BlackBox R-512 Receivers are utilised for wireless DMX transmission. In total, the technical crew can control three grandMA full-size, a grandMA light, seven MA NSPs, two MA 2Port Nodes on PC and five MA digital dimmers 12 x 2.3kVA. The network controls, among other fixtures, 14 Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300s, 13 Vari*Lite VL3000 Spots, 17 VL3000Q Washes, 11 VL3500Q Spots and 11 VL1000TS/Ds.
Says lighting designer Andreas Stübler: "The Wireless Solution Transmitter and Receiver made several effects on the large mobile ice rink and on the two mobile stages possible. With them we could also easily supply VL1000TS/D in the spectator area with DMX."
Stübler continued: "Particularly the new Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300 made all involved technicians enthusiastic straight from the start. The performance of these fixtures in terms of light output and speed is certainly worth showing. The Vari*Lites with their saturated colours contributed very much to the mood of the show."
The lighting designer role was shared by Olaf Eichler and Andreas Stübler.
Letzterer also realised the lighting design for the LEDs. Birger Krause, Tom Mommert and Martin Wagner programmed and operated the grandMAs. In addition, Martin Wagner is also working as video und LED operator. Audiovisual technical diploma engineer Heinz-Jürgen Lokys supplied the lighting equipment.
