Zero 88 at the Singapore Science Centre

In 1969, on the advice of the Science Council of Singapore, the Government decided to convert the National Museum into an art and historical museum and to build a new institution which would be devoted to scientific and technological education.

The Singapore Science Centre is a non-formal educational institution for the promotion of science and technology among students and members of the public.

It has the country's largest collection of educational exhibits devoted to science, and has been acclaimed as one of the top science centres in the world. More than a million visitors come to the Singapore Science Centre every year.

With the advent of the Multi-Media taking industry by storm, the Ministry of Education realised the importance played by the media and financed a proper video/chroma keying/animation studios for the teaching of the subject.

Following the tender process and the approval of the consultant engineers, Zero 88's distributor Combined Corporation was chosen to design the studio. Two independent studios were created with the criteria for the studios to be combined into one large studio space.

Each studio featured a Zero 88 24 channel Chilli installation dimmer Dimmers along with a Zero 88 Jester 24/48 lighting desk. The dimmers were configured to allow for generic theatre dimming and a number of channels in switch mode for the operation of fluorescent fill lights.

Users were astonished at the simplicity of the Jester range, especially the easy saving of shows and uploads through the use of a USB drive. The OS of the console could also be periodically be updated through the in-built USB port. Training on using the board, was completed in less than 30 minutes.

The studios were also fitted with the full range of Studiolumen fixtures from the Range of 650W to 1000W Fresnels and Coolumen 35 xFill Lights were installed to make it complete.

The studios are installed with two DMX access points and 48 dimmable points on the two pipe grid and stage floor enabling easy access anywhere in the whole hall. It has come a long way from the old set up and construction.

The design and consultation was done by P.V. Joseph of Combined Corporation, with colleagues Mr Fazli as the Site co-ordinator and Mr Rezuwan in-charge of the installation of dimmer systems.
