Showsec Partner Live UK The Summit

Showsec continued its policy of supporting open debate and conversation in the music industry when they partnered the Live UK Summit 09 held in London on October 7-8.
Showsec operations director Mark Logan addressed the VIP music business audience, when he spoke on a panel entitled "Criminal In Tent" alongside industry experts Jim King (Loudsound), Reg Walker (Iridium Consultancy) and Chris White (safety consultant). They discussed initiatives that have been set up this year to counter the new and growing trend of organised criminal gangs targeting festivals and their campsites.
Fellow panellist Jim King (director of Loudsound) and organiser of Rockness, Creamfields, Camp Bestival and Bestival worked with Showsec across the summer at all of these festivals. Jim told the delegates: "We developed a long term strategy with Showsec to disrupt the activities of what have become an increasingly sophisticated band of organised criminals targeting live events. Our operation at September's Bestival on the Isle of Wight highlights the positive result of months of sharing intelligence and joint operations which included the police. We successfully minimised crime during the event and apprehended a gang of four individuals who appear to have been responsible for the majority of thefts over the weekend."
The panellists concurred on the need for a central home office database to be set up that enabled sharing of intelligence between police forces across the UK. This would enable festival organisers and events security to be more efficient a countering the activities of these nationwide gangs.
Throughout the remainder of the summit managing director Mark Harding engaged in discussions with prominent industry delegates and politicians covering a range of issues concerning crowd management, event security, licensing legislation and wider commercial developments affecting the future of the music industry.
Europe's most innovative concert and festival security supplier also provided the conference's security professionals, ensuring the safety and comfort of influential music business leaders throughout the two day event.
