DNP Seminar Shows Seeing is Believing
Danish optical projection pioneers dnp recently hosted a two-day seminar attended by 50 leading A/V dealers, consultants and integrators from Germany and Austria. The delegation was co-ordinated by Rainer Sprinzl, managing director sales and marketing at COMM-TEC, dnp's German distributors.
As dnp's Anker Haldan explained: "Our products need to be seen and experienced in order to truly understand the benefits they provide in terms of the viewer experience."
The two-day course set out to prove the concept: Seeing is Believing, and was divided into Theoretical and Workshop sessions.
dnp used their showroom facilities to demonstrate the different rear and front projection screen types while the company's product management team elaborated on (and tested) the theoretical background, using the concept of ‘eyegonomics' to illustrate why dnp products are at the leading edge. "This gave participants an in depth understanding of our products which otherwise would not have been possible," said Anker.
The first day focused on background and theory - demonstrating the different front and rear projection principles, and explaining the importance of contrast in obtaining a good projection.
Attendees had the opportunity to receive hands-on training in small workshop groups on the second day. These workshops covered topics such as: Building a rear projection installation using a mirror system; How to build an MBS system; How a Supernova Epic masking system works, and how to build a Supernova Infinity system. They were also able to make comparisons between Supernova high and low gain offset against competitor products and measure NIT and LUX values.
The Seminar was introduced by dnp's global sales manager Søren Kraemmergaard, while rear projection lectures were conducted by head of product management Jacob Christensen and front projection lectures by product manager Johnny Jensen.
Anker Haldan said: "This exercise was successful both in terms of the number of attendees, which exceeded our expectations, and in terms of the comments we received. These showed that by attending the seminar dealers found new business opportunities for their enterprises at home."
Rainer Sprinzl agreed that the venture had been a huge success. "An important aspect was that dnp managed to transfer knowledge - we could witness with our own eyes issues such as resolution and contrast, and carry out measurements for ourselves, rather than rely on the marketing.
"Although all the attendees had worked in projection for many years the feedback I received was that they still learnt a lot, and that there had been a successful knowledge transfer."
As a result of this there are now discussions to repeat the exercise, and in conjunction with COMM-TEC stage a seminar next year for their customers in Eastern Europe.
"At the same time we urge our other partners to take advantage of this opportunity," concluded Anker. "We can write books and articles from here to the North Pole, but the best way to understand our products is by experiencing them at the source: Seeing is believing."
