JBL Aids Great Eastern's Sound Problems

One of Shoreditch's best-loved venues, Great Eastern Dining Room, has upgraded its loudspeaker system in order to comply with the tight environmental noise restrictions in the neighbourhood.
Set up on the densely-packed Great Eastern Street, low frequency sound had been escaping from the previous system, which had been servicing the ground floor bar/restaurant, and creating complaints to the owners, Ricker Restaurants.
Venue manager Charlie Sutherland contacted the venue's regular service supplier, Colin Pattenden of CP Sound to come up with a solution.
Pattenden, who had already equipped the basement DJ lounge 18 months earlier with six JBL Control 29s and pair of JBL SB2 subwoofers, carried out a site survey and recommended eight smaller JBL Control 25s; these would be mounted lower down the window frames and rubber-mounted to isolate the sound.
"By dropping the level we have managed to achieve a good even spread and excellent clarity"
Charlie Sutherland is delighted with the new system, which is fed by a C-Burn music server. Since the restaurant has 100 covers (with a further 150 capacity in the bar) the new set up is also enhancing customer retention.
"One of the problems before was that in order to satisfy neighbour complaints we had to put the system on limiters. Unless you were sat close to one of the speakers, as soon as there were more than 20 people in the venue it drowned the sound out altogether - and there was no way we could hold onto our clients.
"What we have achieved with the Control 25s is a consistent sound which is twice as good as it was before - the residents have stopped complaining and we are able to hold onto our customers."
He adds that the discreet nature of the Control 25s also complements the highly-designed interior, created by the venue's founder, Will Ricker.
