London Christmas Crowds Safe with Mojo Barriers

Mojo Barriers supplied its crowd barrier system across the three iconic sites for London's biggest ever Christmas lights switch on this November.
Thousands of people gathered at each of the three stages set up in Oxford Street, Regent Street and in front of St Paul's Cathedral. They enjoyed performances by stars of hit London Musicals Oliver!, Sister Act and Hairspray, The Saturdays, Scouting for Girls, Spandau Ballet and Little Boots. Then the stars of Disney's A Christmas Carol, Jim Carrey, Colin Firth and Bob Hoskins each took to a different stage and they simultaneously switched on the Christmas lights. The events all tied into the film première taking place after the switch on.
Technical production on the three stages was managed by Clear Island Productions whose event director Sonia Jones commented: "This event has grown phenomenally, including being in The City for the first time. I can't imagine doing an event of this scale without Mojo Barriers, they're a great team in terms of attitude, competence and I'm confident the safety of our event is in good hands."
Coordinating the three sites in a busy central London was a challenge, as Kevin Thorborn, UK manager of Mojo Barriers explained: "Our logistics had to be very precise to achieve the tight load-in and load-out schedules with limited vehicle access; our aluminium barrier system made that more achievable. The modular system, with curves and gate sections, meant we had the flexibility to build around obstacles such as lamp-posts and bollards once the stages were in position, with the inevitable slight changes to the original plans.
"We began early afternoon and all of our equipment was removed immediately following the shows to clear the roads and get traffic moving. I coordinated three crews to install around 120m of aluminium stage barriers across the three stages and was delighted with the way they all responded to the need for speed and efficiency."
