Meyer Sound Helps Germany Celebrate 20th Anniversary of the Fall of Berlin Wall
Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, world leaders and citizens gathered to commemorate the momentous event in German history. Meyer Sound systems, including the JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker, provided powerful reinforcement for some of the largest celebrations in and around Berlin.
At Bornholmer Brücke, the first checkpoint that opened the gates for East Berlin citizens, German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke to an audience that included Gorbachev, former Solidarnosc leader Lech Walesa, and Berlin mayor Klaus Wowereit through a Meyer Sound UltraSeries system supplied by Emsdetten, Germany-based POOL Group.
A hundred miles away at the former border crossing of Marienborn between Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, Wolfgang Böhmer and Christian Wulff, the prime ministers of the two states led German musicians Karat and Ute Freudenberg and witnesses of the historic transition in celebratory event. Even audio coverage came from two pairs of four JM-1P arrayable loudspeakers stacked and 700-HP subwoofers, designed by Jürgen Kupfers of Salzwedel-based Kupfermusik. A Galileo loudspeaker management system with two Galileo 616 processors provided drive and processing.
Symbolic of the collapse of the wall, a row of dominoes standing 1.5 km long was toppled along the route of the former wall near the Brandenburg Gate, where "Celebration of Freedom" was held. Hamburg-based Procon and the company's project manager Kai Reiss supplied and operated a Meyer Sound system designed by André Herbell of Compact Team to reinforce the speeches by influential leaders including Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, French Prime Minister Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, as well as a video of Barack Obama. The system incorporated MICA, M1D, and M3D line array loudspeakers, UltraSeries and MSL-4 loudspeakers, and M3D-Sub subwoofers. The VIP guests near the stage heard the speeches through the camera-friendly MM-4 miniature loudspeakers.
On the opposite side of the gate, director Daniel Barenboim and Plácido Domingo led the Berlin state orchestra in a performance with reinforcement by MILO® and MICA line array loudspeakers and 700-HP subwoofers. A third venue at Potsdamer Platz used M2D line arrays and 700-HP subwoofers.
