"Qi - Eine Palast Phantasie" (A palace fantasy) is the latest show at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin. The show features dance and ballet acts, dynamic music as well as artistry in haute couture costumes and magnificent scenery. The 100 artists are supported by a professional lighting crew lead by technical manager Olaf Eichler and the powerful technology of MA Lighting.
The MA system consists of three grandMA full-size and one grandMA light consoles, seven MA NSPs (Network Signal Processor), two MA 2Port Nodes onPC and five MA 12 x 2.3kVA digital dimmers. It controls - amongst others - 14 Clay Paky Apha Spot HPE 300s, 13 Vari*Lite VL3000 spots, 17 VL3000Q wash fixtures, 11 VL3500Q spots, 11 VL1000TSDs, five Wireless Solution S-1 transmitters, 10 R-512 receivers and a huge quantity of LED fixtures.
Lighting designer Andreas Stuebler reported: "The different kinds of lighting fixtures were a big challenge for the programmers, but thanks to the flexibility of the grandMA system and its powerful hardware and software, they were able to program fast and efficiently."
Olaf Eichler was a co-lighting designer with Stuebler, and the latter also created the LED lighting design. Birger Krause, Tom Mommert and Martin Wagner worked as programmer/operators, with Martin Wagner responsible for operating video and LED. Audiovisuelle Technik Dipl. Heinz-Jürgen Lokys delivered all the lighting equipment.
