Dusk Dawns in Dublin with End-to-End Martin Pro

A new €2m euro nightclub has opened in Dublin - with its dancefloor dynamics supplied exclusively by products from the Martin Professional catalogue.

Situated five minutes from Dublin Airport,in the densely-populated working class district of Coolock, the 800-capacity Dusk has been developed by entrepreneur Gary Payne, who also owns Liz Delaneys Bar downstairs and Barcelona's leading Irish bar, The George Payne.

Payne, who has owned the site for a decade, decided two years ago to convert the fairly tired looking music lounge upstairs into a contemporary, cutting-edge nightclub. "We wanted it to be the best," he said, and so he enlisted the help of Martin Pro dealers Audiotek and interior designer, Paul Carton of Carton Design.

Given the provenance of the site, Dusk was only ever likely to remain an exclusive Martin Professional house. Says Audiotek MD, Frank Murray, "The club has a massive loyalty to Martin, and as the leading dealer they found their way to us. A number of companies pitched for this contract but it was general manager, Andy Larmon's belief that this was the product they wanted to use - and all our staff were already Martin factory trained."

As a result, Audiotek have designed the dancefloor rig around ten Martin Pro MAC 250 Krypton moving heads, eight Martin Pro MX-10 scanners and two Martin Pro Atomic strobes, brought to life by a pair of Magnum 1800 smoke machines - with the entire dynamic under the command of a Martin Light Jockey (operated by LJ Florin and programmed by Cian Byrne).

Mindful of the budget, Frank Murray's team have also relamped and repurposed the eight existing Martin Pro MAC 250s - which now act as a ‘curtain raiser' in the club's newly-constructed foyer and stair areas.

Both Frank Murray and Andy Larmon agree that the Light Jockey is the most stable of all the off-the-shelf lighting programmes. "I like Light Jockey - it's very reliable and long lasting and just never lets you down," says the club manager.

"It's the product we always wanted to use."

The final word comes from Gary Payne. "I am delighted with the result. We had an idea of what we wanted but I didn't believe it would turn out this well - it's totally unique for this area.

"This is the first time I have worked with Audiotek and I must say they are extremely professional."

Dusk is all the more remarkable for its tight fit-out programme - closing the first week in January and being turned around in just seven weeks.

The development has certainly moved the Northside Shopping Centre (on which it is situated) a long way upscale and represents part of a massive investment programme that is taking place in this area.
