Nippy Industries Fly at Battersea Evolution

During 2009, if you go behind the scenes at Battersea Evolution (a semi-permanent event space in Battersea Park, central London) you'll find riggers and engineers from
Nippy Industries lifting gear safely and helping event producers turn their creative concepts into reality.
Back in September last year, Nippy Industries were awarded the contract to be the in-house rigging supplier for the venue. Since then they've worked on awards dinners, fashion shows, conferences and parties.
"For the re-launch of the venue we suspended a Ferrari from the ceiling," explains MD Steven Williams. "And for the themed Christmas party season we've hung over 250 metres of truss and installed around 70 rigging points for lighting positions and festive scenery. We've even flown a special chandelier with an aerial performer attached!"
Venue sponsors Russian Standard Vodka wanted to create a spectacular product sampling showpiece during the party season so they hired aerial performer Nanine Linning to bring her Happy Hour Chandelier concept to Battersea. The Chandelier is essentially a sampling platform - but with a twist. Nanine hangs upside down above the crowd handing out vodka shots. Naturally, rigorous health and safety checks were carried out by head rigger Paul Darby before lifting the specially adapted chandelier using three motorised chain hoists. The unit had to be precisely level and perfectly stable so that there was no tilting or tipping. With the artiste dispensing liquor above the 2500 strong audience any tipping would result in guests getting splashed with the premium brand Vodka. (Would that be such a bad thing? - Ed)
