Alcons ProLight+Sound 2009 Special

In what has become an annual Alcons feature at ProLight + Sound, Alcons will exhibit a new design study, providing a glimpse of its R+D activities by displaying assembled prototype developments, some of which may be applied in future products. Following the 2007 "Phitom", the 2008 "R-Ray", this year's design study is called "MSRA". This evolutionary concept, a scalable high-power line-source monitor system, is based on vertically stacked modules, applying the excellent (cylindrical) arrayability of Alcons' proprietary pro-ribbon technology.

Highlighted product is the LR7 micro pro-ribbon line-array, latest and smallest member of Alcons' successful pro-ribbon line-arrays. Featuring a single 6.5" woofer and the Alcons RBN401 4" pro-ribbon driver in a 15-degree vertical projection configuration. The 16 ohms impedance and a choice of 90-degree or 120-degree horizontal projection, makes the LR7 ideal for A/V projects, where very compact form factor with perfect line-array throw (the industry's best "throw-to-size" ratio) and imaging are required.

At Frankfurt Alcons will show a new line-array product, completing the entry size range of the successful L-series. Developed with a new concentric acoustic design, the product features optimized acoustical output to extend the flexibility of the L-series even further. The product will be revealed on the show floor...

The CR1 ultra-compact AV/Digital Cinema sound system is a 3-way sound system consisting of a 12" side-vented woofer, 6.5" vented mid-range driver and RBN401 pro-ribbon driver packed in a 18cm/7-in. ultra-shallow MDF enclosure. The 4 ohms impedance in combination with the passive-filtering offers an amplifier-efficient and output-maximizing package. It is designed to provide medium output, high quality A/V sound reproduction, for cinema theatres, board-rooms, home theatres, residential sound systems, etc.

Another featured product is the Q-series scalable ribbon-array columns. Designed as solution to obtain excellent coverage and ultimate intelligibility over longer distances in "acoustically challenging" environments, the series combines the ease-of-use of a traditional point-source loudspeaker with the throw and control of a J-curved line-array system. Applications include churches, reverberant halls, and any application where beam-steering solutions don't bring the desired SPL and frequency response.

A selection of other Alcons products will also be on the stand, including the VR8 monitors and BF151 subwoofers for low-SPL demonstrations, to enable visitors to get an idea of the quality performance of Alcons pro-ribbon systems.

Alcons stand is F41 in Hall 8.
