Celebrating the Best in Theatre

The cream of acting talent came together last night for the 2009 Laurence Olivier Awards, the UK's most prestigious theatre awards. The ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London is presented by The Society of London Theatre to honour the best West End stage productions.

Stage Electrics is delighted to have supported this illustrious event by supplying the lighting equipment and technical support for the fourth year in a row. Stage Electrics would like to congratulate all the nominees and winners from last night including Paule Constable for Best Lighting Design (Paule is currently the lighting designer on Oliver! supplied by Stage Electrics), Lesli Margherita for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a musical, for Zorro at the Garrick Theatre (supplied by Stage Electrics), Patrick Stewart for his supporting role in Hamlet (Stewart is currently touring with Waiting for Godot, for which Stage Electrics has recently won a contract) and the entire cast and crew of Black Watch for their amazing achievement in winning four awards.

The awards were presented against a backdrop of record West End attendances in 2008, 14 million people, a 1% rise on the previous year. Chris Patton, divisional sales manager for Stage Electrics comments: "Last night proved that West End theatre continues to grow in strength, even during economic uncertainty. This is due to the continued support of the audiences who keep the shows going."
