Taking the opportunity of a high profile London appearance and making excellent use of Durham Marenghi's lighting design for Raymond Gubbay's Classical Spectacular during its recent Royal Albert Hall tenure, Clay Paky's new Alpha Beam 1500 units took their place within the show's rig. Marenghi himself, along with programmer Tim Routledge, demonstrated to invited lighting designers and guests the part the fixtures played within the design, making good use of some striking excerpts from the production.

Ten Alpha Beam 1500s and nine Alpha Beam 300s, along with two Alpha Wash 1500s were incorporated into the lighting design. The lights were added to the existing rig from PRG of VL3500s, Martin MAC 2000 washes and Clay Paky Alpha Profile 1200s and added a powerful visual element to the concert lighting display. Control is via two MA Lighting grandMA lights, one used as a back-up.

The Alpha Beam 1500 generates the most powerful and impressive ACL-style moving beam. Equipped with a 1500W lamp and a special Clay Paky optical group enhancing the nominal light output, Alpha Beam 1500 creates a super-concentrated, super-bright, parallel light beam that is a spectacular solution for large scale shows and events. It can be used in arenas or stadia as a "very long throw" motorised lighting effect, featuring unlimited colours (CMY plus colour wheel) and a variety of beam-shaping devices for mid-air effects and graphic projection. Further versatility is provided by an incredible array of features: an innovative focus system (patent pending), 14 gobos (six rotating and eight fixed), two rotating prisms, rotating beam shaper, 0-100% dimmer plus precision dimmer on separate channels, mechanical iris, stop-strobe, and three combinable linear frosts. Alpha Beam 1500 is ultra bright and "eco-friendly": it is as effective and as bright as fixtures requiring thousands of watts, allowing for significant energy savings.

The Alpha Wash 1500 LT is the first washlight specifically designed for long throw applications. Thanks to its new 1500 Watt lamp, whose output is optimised and enhanced by a special optical group, Alpha Wash 1500 LT generates an impressive light beam, providing 45,000 lux. It is equipped with a comprehensive colour "engine", including a CMY system, a wheel with selected colours and a CTO filter for colour temperature adjustment. The beam diffusion and opening angle can be adjusted at will using a linear zoom, a beam ovaliser and a rotating prism. Finally a very accurate dimmer and a shutter/strobe allow for full intensity control.

Alpha Beam 300 is the only 300W beam moving light on the market able to release an Aircraft Landing light effect from a powerful, light and compact moving body. Like an ACL Par64, the Alpha Beam 300 can be used in "live" environments, especially for "long throw" use, and in addition to the former, offering a series of graphic and movement capacities.
