Water Sculptures Dancing on Ice with Torvill and Dean!
Water Sculptures provided the spectacular rain effect seen by viewers around the country during a recent live broadcast of Dancing on Ice.
Torville and Dean's breathtaking opening sequence, performed to the soundtrack of 'It's Raining Men', was filmed at Elstree Studios. Water Sculptures worked with the show's technical director Wes Moore perfecting the rain, an effect that required a high level of technical experience and equipment for it to succeed on the ice covered dance floor.
The skaters, performing with umbrellas, had just seconds to make sure that their brollies opened on time. After the stunning performance Christopher Dean told presenter Phillip Schofield that although he was feeling rather wet, the water had been heated so he wasn't too cold.
Alasdair Elliot, director of Water Sculptures: says "Making sure that the rain's pressure and temperature created the right visual results without detracting from Torville and Dean's performance required a complex system of pipework and valves. We had just one day to install and it's been a great experience. We created quite a stir, and are absolutely thrilled to have been invited to do the work."
