SLS Flies the Summit Flags

SLS Flies the Summit Flags

SLS played an integral part in the success of the delivery of the recent G20 Summit by providing the flagpoles and flags which dominated the event. Commissioned by the event agency WRG, SLS were asked to supply and install a range of over 200 flagpoles including a number which were specially made for the conference. In addition, SLS installed 66 of their 6m flagpoles to create the backdrop for both the Leaders' entrance and also the main press print room.

The most evocative backdrop of flags was for the media briefing area used by Prime Minister Gordon Brown and President Obama when they announced the success of the Summit. Pictures of this stage went around the globe.

As part of the brief, SLS was also asked to deliver a similar look to the archway linking the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Downing Street, for the evening of the Downing Street dinner on April 1st. At this location, 44 flagpoles were installed on plinths designed and built by SLS especially for the occasion.

The overall impact provided a dramatic backdrop for the media cameras when the delegates and their wives passed through the archway en route to No 10.

Commenting on this contract Giles Stanford of SLS said: "This was one of the most prestigious jobs we have undertaken - our brief from WRG being to deliver the flags of Nations and meet the detailed design requirements. The extremely tight timescale for installation, coupled with the number of contractors on board and high security arrangements, made this no easy task. Nevertheless, I believe we can be extremely proud of the final outcome, and very grateful to everybody involved!"
