Joy's Provides Christie/Spyder Superiority at Guernsey Awards

Since its inception in 1985, the Guernsey Awards for Achievement has focused on celebrating corporate and personal success. Now in its 23rd year, the initiative continues to attract the interest and support of companies and individuals island-wide. This year's event reached its climax recently at a glittering Awards gala evening, held at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre; attended by close on 800 people it again proved to be the highlight of the Island's corporate calendar.
Event production company, Joy's, were brought in to provide the spectacular projection backdrop. The company fielded Christie's cutting edge high-definition projectors and Vista Spyder dynamic processing as part of a purpose-designed show, created and produced in Joy's unique ‘3DLive' graphics system.
Joy's supplied an impressive 20m widescreen, centered on the landscape side of the room, and constructed from floor to ceiling. A series of stunning 3D animated graphic sequences were produced in 3DLive and projected by two edge-blended Christie Roadster HD18Ks, which produced outstanding clarity.
Vista Spyder screen control managed the 18,000-lumen projectors, along with two additional Christie Roadster HD12Ks, which were used on repeater screens at the sides of the room. These permitted an excellent view of the dynamic on-screen display from all perspectives.
A three-camera ‘image magnification' system was used to film the evening, consisting of two manned cameras on tripods and one manned roving camera. Live images were fed through the Spyder 344 to live windows on each screen. A comprehensive lighting rig was also provided, including a number of moving head lamps and awards gobos on the set.
Joy's have very much led the way in HD projection and widescreen presentations over recent years, and were early adopters of both the Christie single- and 3-chip HD series and Spyder processing. They run a selection of Christie HD18K, HD12K and HD6K in their inventory while they uniquely use Spyder management systems, which MD Peter Joy describes as "the best processing available".
He adds: "We were the first company to introduce this technology into Europe and have a wealth of show experience under our belts. Additionally our programmers are full time and are recognised as the best in the industry."
The Vista Spyder allows different media to be shown together on single or multiple screens, affording the producer total control and flexibility. It can mix a large number of sources in multiple windows, create picture-in-pictures (PIPs), define, shape and blend borders. It brings the best out of Christie's range of pioneering high brightness HD projectors - the smallest and brightest high-performance native resolution DLP® HD projectors on the market.
