Orbital Sound Shows Control at ABTT 2009
Orbital Sound will be showcasing its broad range of products and services on stands 114 & 115 at the ABTT Theatre Show 2009 (10 - 11 June, Royal Horticultural Halls, London), and will be highlighting the latest version of the CSC Show Control Software from CTR Electronics. In use throughout the West End and on many touring productions, including the UK tour of SpongeBob Squarepants, CSC Show Control is a previous winner of the ABTT Sound Product of the Year award. It combines cue-list methodology and external triggering with MIDI control and automated WAV playback, with Version 3 adding timeline-based graphical editing directly into the product, coupled to an updated user interface.
Orbital will also be showing digital wireless microphone systems from Zaxcom, including the TRX900 stereo-capable transmitter and the new QRX100 4-channel receiver, plus HME's recently-launched DX121 one-to-one digital wireless intercom. This can be plugged into a standard intercom station or belt-pack headset jack, or connected to a matrix intercom system, to enable wireless intercom links of up to 300 metres to be established quickly and easily. Completing Orbital's product line-up will be loudspeakers systems from d&b audiotechnik, including the new T-Series.
Chris Headlam, managing director of Orbital Sound, commented: "For many people, the name of Orbital is synonymous with theatre sound, and the ABTT Theatre Show is very much a key event for us - we were among the first sound companies to support the show and have been doing so since our first appearance.
"In addition to the range of audio and communications technologies we now handle, we are extending our mainstream rental service to address the needs of amateur and school productions. So if a customer's requirement is for a single radio microphone, or the simplest sound system, we can provide the appropriate advice, products and support.
"The legal implications of CNWR Noise at Work - and the timescale involved - are causing significant concern to the theatre and live event industry. Our Event Communications division will be at the show, to provide practical information on the consequences of the Noise at Work regulations, with details of site-assessment and reporting procedures."
Zaxcom's new QRX100 4-channel digital wireless diversity receiver can be operated with any combination of mono or stereo TRX900 series microphone transmitters. In addition to analogue audio outputs, the QRX100 can also deliver audio in AES digital format, with the system's digital modulation maintaining interference-free operation, even in busy RF environments. The compact, lightweight design is particularly suited to smaller touring productions and multi-purpose venues, and is also light enough to be camera-mounted for video and broadcast applications.
Orbital's Rental Desk currently supports theatres and touring productions throughout the UK and into continental Europe. The company will be using ABTT 2009 to introduce its specialist rental service for amateur and school productions, including details of its training programmes for students and those interested in increasing their skills in sound system operation. Information regarding Orbital's recently-launched battery recycling scheme for theatres and entertainment venues will also be available.
