Zero 88 at ABTT
Zero 88, part of Cooper Controls Ltd, enters a new era of development with the launch of their stunning new theatrical lighting console ORB. Forming the main focus of their stand, Zero 88 will be presenting their new console to the theatrical industry at ABTT this year
The ORB combines extreme flexibility, four universes of DMX control and contemporary styling to create a control solution for those operating in professional theatrical environments
The ZerOS software suite is the platform underlying the ORB's operating system. ZerOS has been tried and tested in Zero 88's leading entertainment lighting controllers, the Leap Frog and Frog 2. The ZerOS software has now been adapted to provide the tools needed to meet the stringent requirements of theatrical lighting designers and programmers in the 21st Century.
Keeping pace with the latest developments in lighting and presentation technologies, the ORB allows users to easily and seamlessly control and integrate multiple LED fittings, intelligent lights or media servers controlling video. Recognising that many theatres still have large installations of standard generic dimming systems Zero 88 has designed the ORB to provide a sophisticated yet familiar programming style for these devices.
All devices are programmed through intuitive user interfaces incorporating custom designed encoder wheels, multiple playback stacks, user definable keys and optional touch screens. Tools like the integrated track ball, automatic palettes and syntax keys allow for speedy programming when used by a seasoned lighting operator.

Also on show will be the Jester TL consoles. These are theatrical versions of Zero 88's popular Jester consoles, bringing the power and flexibility of this range to those operating in theatre environments. The Jester TL offers control of up to 120 dimmer channels from a numeric keypad using standard industry syntax.
In common with the other Jester desks, the Jester TL features a cue stack for the play back of memories in a traditional theatrical manner. Playback on the Jester TL console is via a traditional theatre playback stack or submaster control. On the Jester TL submaster control is achieved using multi-function-buttons (an external DMX desk can be connected as a fader bank). Up to 24 submasters can be controlled using multi-function-buttons, or by using a DMX desk connected to the DMX Input as a ‘wing'.
The latest in the range is the Jester TLXtra. The Jester TLXtra negates the need for an external ‘wing' by providing 10 integrated submaster faders (20 pages of 10).
As with the other Jester consoles in the range a monitor port is standard on both Jester TL consoles together with USB storage and easy patching. Control of up to 30 moving lights is simple using palettes, effects engines and a full fixture library. Its small form factor makes it perfect for venues that were previously limited by space.
With the addition of dedicated theatrical consoles, the Jester range now represents the most comprehensive range of cost effective lighting controllers in the market, with options for basic 2 preset operation, memory operation, moving lights and now keypad channel control.
Zero 88 will also be demonstrating Version 2 of the incredibly powerful LightFactory PC based lighting control software. Version 2 brings major changes to the underlying software engine, increasing the power of the software and providing a more sophisticated operating platform for future releases. The launch of Version 2 also brings a host of new features and a new aesthetic design providing a more intuitive and powerful set of tools for the user.
