Kling & Freitag with VME at Tenth Wakestock Festival

The annual Wakestock festival at Abersoch in Wales has now turned 10 and it has been noticed more than ever before - and Kling & Freitag say they were proud to be part of the festival. Three stages hosted an eclectic line-up: the Open Air stage, XFM Misadventures stage and sponsors Relentless Live stage. Headliners this year were acts including Moby, N*E*R*D, Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris, Mr Scruff, Chase and Status and Zane Lowe.
For the last nine years VME have been responsible for all technical requirements for the festival. "To deliver everything from fuel for the generators, to speakers, lighting, LED screens and trussing is a good challenge every year," states Dion Davie, director of VME. The festival has grown from a small event to a respectful 30,000 visitor site.
"We use only Kling & Freitag speakers for all stages. They are reliable and the performance is unrivalled," says André Davie, Dion's brother and also a director. The open Air Stage (main stage) uses the Kling & Freitag Access System. This year, 16 cabinets were flown either side of the stage, underpinned by a total of 22 Access B10 subs. Tests have proved that line arrays would not work on the exposed windy site, which is why VME count on a conventional point source system. "We believe it is the best and only way to deliver a sound pressure level suitable for the bands that play at the festival - for a site that looks directly over the Irish Sea, and has to contend with high wind and (sadly) rain, the Access system performs flawlessly," says Ben Hyman, sales manager for VME.
The XFM Misadventures stage is driven by the Kling & Freitag Sequenza 10 line array system. Twenty-four Sequenza 10 N/W and eight additional bass cabinets 10 B and four Access B10 18'' subs were delivering enough sound pressure to support bands like ‘The Pigeon Detectives', ‘The Zutons' and many more. On the smallest stage (VIP) the Line 212 system was in use with additional SW215E for bass.
All the foldback monitors are Kling & Freitag CA 1515-6s and run in pairs on every stage. Amplification is entirely Lab Gruppen.
