Tannoy at Meriton Conference & Spa Hotel in Tallinn

Over 1000 Tannoy loudspeakers have recently been installed in Estonia's newest upmarket hotel development, underlining the Scottish-based manufacturer's strong credentials in the Hotel AV sector. A range of CVS in-ceiling speakers and Designer Install surface-mount speakers have been specified to great effect throughout the new Meriton Conference and Spa Hotel in Tallinn as part of a comprehensive high quality audio system that also includes Biamp amplification and DSP.
An elegant and modern addition to Tallinn's cityscape, the new Meriton, which opened in May 2009, is located at the heart of the Estonian capital, close to the Old Town and the Parliament. The hotel has 301 modern and tastefully decorated guestrooms, including 280 standard rooms, 12 family rooms and 9 suites. The hotel's ace card is its combination of modern luxury in the shape of fine dining and health spa along with cutting edge business facilities - boasting a total of 7 flexible conference rooms furnished with the latest AV equipment including Sanyo 4500 ANSI XGA projectors, CommTec video matrices and of course Tannoy's premium quality loudspeaker systems. The largest of these conference rooms is capable of hosting up to 380 delegates, while another is located on the 7th floor with access to a roof terrace overlooking the historic city.
Elsewhere, the hotel has an offering of five specialist bar/restaurants in the shape of an Asian restaurant, French pastry café, local bistro (serving Estonian fayre), piano bar and main hotel bar. Each of these spaces is adequately catered for where audio is concerned by a mix of Tannoy's CVS4 and CVS6 full bandwidth blind mount in-ceiling loudspeakers. Over 600 4" driver equipped CVS units have been deployed throughout the main circulation spaces of the hotel including lobbies, halls and ancillary areas, while 265 of the larger CVS6 (6" co-axially mounted woofer and 0.75" tweeter) were specified in areas where additional full-range clarity and SPL was desirable, particularly where BGM material would feature more prominently such as within the restaurants, bars and conference suites.
Over 50 each of Tannoy's Di5 and Di6 loudspeakers were installed in areas where the in-ceiling systems needed augmenting or where they simply weren't a practical option such as in the outdoor spaces around the entrances or up on the rooftop terracing, and around the perimeter areas of the main restaurant. Di6's were also specified to deliver high quality, directional audio in the spa & pool areas - being IP64 compliant, the Di Series are rated for all-weather use and so were perfectly suited to the humid environment of the indoor pool, and even withstand the heat and steam of the sauna! A number of Di5 and Di6 units also deliver exceptional audio coverage throughout the well-appointed fitness gym, where higher tempo (and louder!) music is the order of the day. All Di Series were spec'd in white, rather than the more typical black, to match the general décor style of the Meriton interior.
Tallinn based systems installers, Digital Emotions, were intent on utilising Tannoy loudspeaker systems throughout the entire Meriton hotel, having become familiar with their product range over the past few years, and have previously worked on similar projects with no problems. As Digital Emotions Principle Erik Pauklin explained,
"We've a great deal of experience in using Tannoy's speakers, and have yet to find a brand that gives me the same confidence in achieving great results with little or no reliability problems while delivering excellent value for money. In this market, reputation is everything and you're only as good as your last job. That's why we don't think twice about the decision to install Tannoy."
