Theatreplan Advising Rocco Design Architects on Conceptual Plan for West Kowloon Cultural District

Theatreplan Advising Rocco Design Architects on Conceptual Plan for West Kowloon Cultural District

Seen for the first time at the 12th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition, which opened for a two-month period on August 27, are three conceptual plan options for the proposed West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong which includes no fewer than fifteen performing arts venues.

Theatreplan LLP has been working with Rocco Design Architects on one of the conceptual plans, and has been contributing technical advice on the performance venues.

The start of the second phase of the ‘public engagement exercise’ in Hong Kong coincided with the opening of the Venice Biennale, where a wide range of international visitors will also have the opportunity to view and compare all three proposals, models and supporting videos as presented in Hong Kong. Rocco Design Architects Ltd, with the help of Theatreplan, has submitted Cultural Connect: Key to Sustained Vitality, and this will be competing with schemes from other teams led by Foster + Partners and Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA).

Stage 3 of the public consultation takes place during 2011, when the chosen Conceptual Plan is expanded into a development plan.
