ShowTex supplied a custom made stage-scale glassless mirror for The Finnish National Opera’s production of the Snow Queen. Kenneth Greve's new family friendly ballet is based on the tale by H.C. Andersen from 1845. The Snow Queen's magical world was created by costume designer Erika Turunen and lighting designer Mikki Kunttu together with the choreographer. The accompanying music is a recording performed by the Finnish National Opera orchestra under the direction of the composer Tuomas Kantelinen.

EM Acoustics announces first HALO Compact install into Historic London Venue

Following the high profile launch of EM Acoustics new HALO Compact line array system at the Royal Albert Hall, the company has announced the first ever installation into an equally historic, if lesser known venue in east London. Located in the heart of London’s East End, the People’s Palace was inaugurated in 1886 to provide cultural activities to the local population. Now owned by Queen Mary, University of London, the Grade-II listed Queen’s Building (as it is known today) is home to the 750-seat Great Hall. The theatre has just undergone a £5.7m facelift in order to restore it to its former 1930’s art deco glory. The finishing touch to the restoration was a brand new PA system - the new HALO Compact from EM Acoustics, with Stage Electrics’ Jamie Gosney providing the design and Martin Woodage project managing the installation.

The DLS Profile is the latest product in the DL range of luminaires that use the Robe RGBW LED module. The DLS adds a system of four fast, smooth, framing shutters within the optical path design of the proven DLX Spot format. There is individual control of each shutter blade position and angle, together with rotation of the complete framing module. As well as providing a sharp precise or soft frame for the projected image, the system produces a new series of effects through pre-programmed shutter blade shape and movement sequences. Snappy blades of the framing module overlap each other on almost the same focal plane which allows the designer to create polygons or triangles, as well as other shapes, while staying in focus and always precisely come back to the pre-programmed position. As with all models in the Robe DL luminaire range, the multiple shadows normally associated with an LED source have been eliminated.

Canadian rockers Billy Talent celebrated the release of a new album in September by jumping straight into an arena run of Germany and central Europe. Having tested the touring waters on the summer European festivals, the production and design was in the works and big things were being planned. Lighting designer Dara Guiney had worked with the band briefly in 2010 and was invited to come aboard for the new album touring cycle.
